Every student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that is tailored to their individual strengths, needs and learning goals. IEP goals are aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 and informed by school-based assessment data, ensuring teaching and learning is personalised, differentiated and targeted to each student's point of need.
Our small class sizes provide students with increased opportunities for individual support, explicit teaching and meaningful engagement in learning. Teachers regularly monitor student progress and adjust learning programs to ensure every student is supported to achieve success and develop independence.
Families are valued partners in their child's education. Student Support Group (SSG) meetings are held four times each year to review progress, celebrate achievements and set future learning goals. Families also receive Semester Reports twice a year, providing detailed information about their child's progress and achievement across the curriculum.
Students participate in English lessons where reading, writing, speaking and listening are taught through explicit, structured instruction. A strong emphasis is placed on developing foundational literacy skills, including letter-sound knowledge, phonics and vocabulary through the Phonics Plus program. Guided reading sessions provide targeted teacher support, enabling students to build confidence in decoding, fluency and reading comprehension. Through writing, students are encouraged to communicate their ideas, explore a range of text types and develop confidence as capable writers. Weekly visits to the school library allow students to borrow books and foster a lifelong enjoyment of reading.
Learning experiences in Maths focus on developing students' understanding across the Victorian Curriculum 2.0 strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space and Statistics. Students build mathematical knowledge through engaging, hands-on learning experiences, including the use of concrete materials, games and open-ended tasks that encourage exploration and discovery. Mathematical language is explicitly taught to support students in communicating their thinking, explaining their reasoning and making connections between concepts. Students are encouraged to use a range of strategies to solve problems and apply their mathematical understanding in meaningful, real-world contexts, fostering confidence, independence and functional numeracy.
Integrated Studies incorporates the curriculum learning areas of Science and Humanities, providing students with opportunities to explore and make connections between the world around them. Through an inquiry-based approach, students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, develop understandings and apply their knowledge to real-life contexts. Learning experiences are designed to promote curiosity, exploration and critical thinking, with students engaging in hands-on activities, investigations and collaborative learning tasks. Across Science and Humanities, students develop skills in observing, questioning, researching, analysing and communicating their understandings while exploring concepts related to natural, social and built environments.
Developing our students’ Personal and Social Capabilities (PSC) is essential in enabling them to understand themselves, others and their place within the wider community. PSC focuses on supporting students to recognise and regulate their emotions, develop empathy, build positive relationships, work effectively as part of a team and manage challenging situations. Through the explicit teaching of social skills, students participate in targeted lessons such as RIPOR and Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), which support the development of social, emotional and respectful relationship skills. These skills are reinforced through authentic learning opportunities, including excursions, camps and community-based experiences, which provide students with opportunities to practise independence, resilience, collaboration and problem-solving in a range of environments. These experiences are valued by students and play an important role in fostering confidence, connection and meaningful participation within the school and wider community.
