The Primary School is a vibrant and supportive learning environment where every student is valued, encouraged and empowered to achieve their personal best. We celebrate the unique strengths and abilities of each student, creating an inclusive space where learning is engaging and meaningful.
Students experience a rich learning program that supports both academic progress and the development of social and emotional skills. There is a strong focus on building confidence, independence and a sense of belonging. Learning in the Primary Department is hands-on and purposeful. A key focus is Phonics Plus, a structured synthetic phonics program that supports students at all stages of reading. Through engaging lessons, students develop their reading, writing and spelling skills while building confidence to take on new challenges. We have a wonderful school library which classes access weekly, enabling students to borrow books for home reading.
Our timetable includes core subjects, English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science, alongside specialist programs such as Physical Education, Visual Art, Food Technology, Digital Technology and Performing Arts. An exciting aspect of the week is our Outdoor Education program where students learn to safely access the wider community, improving their physical health whilst exploring the natural environment. Complementing our learning programs are our Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology programs. Occupational Therapy sessions focus on developing interoception and self-regulation skills, strengthening gross and fine motor abilities and supporting the effective use of resources and environments, such as the soft playroom, to help alert or calm the body. Speech Therapy sessions focus on enhancing communication and developing vocabulary while fostering social communication skills through play-based activities that encourage friendship building, turn-taking, sharing and following social rules. Each Primary class has a weekly timetabled OT and Speech session.
Wellbeing and explicit teaching of personal and social capabilities are central to our approach. Through the Respectful Relationships Program and RIPOR lessons, students are encouraged to be safe, responsible and respectful members of the school and wider community. Each classroom design their personalised expectations guided by the SWPBS framework, promoting a positive, safe and supportive learning environment for all. Our school therapy dog, Pixie, brings a sense of calmness and joy when she arrives to our classrooms each Friday.
Our weekly Primary Assembly celebrates student achievements and fosters a strong sense of community as we practise singing the school song at the top of our lungs! Also singing at the top of their lungs are the passionate members of our Primary Choir who practise together weekly – often showcased at whole school assembly, alongside our talented pianists, lead by our piano teacher, Leanne.
Students are given opportunities to develop leadership skills in Years 5 and 6. Camp experiences are on offer each year which further supports the personal and social capabilities curriculum, promoting independence and resilience. A highlight of the year is always our intensive swimming program at the conclusion of Terms 1 and 2.
Welcome to the Primary School; a community where every student belongs, learns and grows.
