Monday March 4 was a beautiful sunny day for a day at the pool! Ms Adams, Gosper and Lindsay took the Ashwood School swim team to compete in the School Sport Victoria Division Swim Carnival at Oakleigh Pool. There were four other Secondary Schools racing and the atmosphere was very exciting.
Ashwood was represented by girls Lexi, Isla, Mackenzie, Sandra, Nethuki and Lily and boys Jadyn, Sonnal, Tharun, Alexander, Brighton and Lochlan.
Tharun, Isla, Nethuki and Lily were awarded age group swim champions. All winners are invited to the Regional Championships on Tuesday 26 March. Meanwhile all the swimmers will keep training so they can do their very best for Ashwood School.
The prestigious 2024 Virtus World Skiing Championship is being hosted in Zakopane, Poland this week with seven Australian skiers taking part, including our own year 12 student Samantha Li.
Virtus, the International Sports Federation for athletes with intellectual impairments, hosted prestigious Virtus athletic events since 2016 - including the World Skiing Championships in 2016 and 2018 - with this year’s events seeing athletes contest the slalom, giant slalom and Super G events.
The athletes are supported by Snow Australia and Sport Inclusion Australia. Like Olympic and Paralympic athletes to come before them, all members of the team have competed at Interschools, a rich nursery for Australian snowsports talent. With preparation and formalities out of the way, it is now time to get to the action and the athletes can’t wait to hit the start gate.
Training is done and opening ceremony was really great with all nations marching followed by traditional dancing from local group,” said Tom Hodges, Snow Australia Para Pathway Development Coach who is in Zakopane with the team. “Virtus brings together athletes from all over the world to complete at their highest level. The standard has been really impressive from all athletes, Australia included.”
